Asia Cup 2025 in Trouble? India's Stand Creates Uncertainty Over Venue

By Hitesh Sharma July 19, 2025

The future of the Asia Cup 2025 has come under a cloud of uncertainty as India reportedly refuses to attend the upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting scheduled in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Political tensions and security concerns have prompted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to take a firm stance, demanding a change in the meeting venue.

🔍 Why is the BCCI Against Dhaka?

The ACC's Annual General Meeting is set for July 24, and one of the key discussions is finalizing the format and venue for the 2025 Asia Cup — a T20 format, six-nation tournament. While India is designated as the host, the meeting venue in Dhaka has raised concerns.

According to sources, the BCCI has officially requested ACC President and current Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to shift the meeting to a neutral or alternate location. However, no action has been taken, prompting the BCCI to consider boycotting any decisions made in that meeting.

“India will not agree to any resolution passed in Dhaka,” the source said, underlining the seriousness of the situation.

🏟️ Impact on Asia Cup 2025

If the meeting location remains unchanged, the possibility of Asia Cup 2025 being delayed or relocated increases. Cricket diplomacy in South Asia continues to be tricky — just last year, India refused to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, leading to a hybrid hosting model with Sri Lanka as the neutral venue for India's matches.

Similarly, during the 2025 Champions Trophy, India also opted out of traveling to Pakistan, playing their games in Dubai instead.

🕊️ India-Bangladesh Relations & Recent Developments

India and Bangladesh had also mutually postponed a scheduled cricket tour from August 2025 to September 2026, citing the prevailing political and security atmosphere.

Earlier in the year, speculation circulated about India possibly pulling out of both the Men’s Asia Cup and the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup, but these rumors were dismissed by BCCI officials.

🇮🇳 What's Next?

India remains the defending champion of the Asia Cup, and their participation is vital for the tournament’s success, both in terms of viewership and revenue. With no official Asia Cup 2025 schedule released yet, all eyes are now on whether the ACC will agree to shift the venue or risk India pulling out of key discussions.
