Trevon Diggs Injury Update: Dallas Cowboys Cornerback Cleared PUP List Ahead of Week 1

Trevon Diggs Injury Update: Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys received encouraging news over the weekend regarding cornerback Trevon Diggs. He has successfully passed his physical and has been moved off the team’s Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, now joining the active 53-man roster. This update comes after Diggs suffered a season-ending injury last season and started training camp on the PUP list.

Brian Schottenheimer Comments on Diggs

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer praised Diggs’ dedication and hard work. "I'd be remiss if I didn't talk about how hard Trevon's been working," he said. Diggs has been putting in extra effort with coach Britt Brown, demonstrating commitment and focus. While this move is positive, it doesn’t guarantee Diggs will play in the Week 1 opener.

When Could Trevon Diggs Return?

Diggs will not start the season on the PUP list, which would have sidelined him for the first four weeks. Given the Cowboys’ roster depth issues last season, this is a critical development. Rookie Kaiir Elam impressed in training camp, and DaRon Bland is expected to start inside the slot. Meanwhile, Andrew Booth may start opposite Elam if the team is not confident in their current nickel corner until Diggs is fully ready.

Impact on Cowboys’ Secondary

Defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus now has an opportunity to rethink the secondary. During the preseason, the Cowboys recorded five interceptions in three games. While Diggs will join the 53-man roster, he may not immediately feature on the active roster for the first regular-season game against the reigning Super Bowl champions, Philadelphia Eagles, on Thursday, September 4.

Summary

  • Trevon Diggs cleared his physical and moved off the PUP list.
  • He joins the 53-man roster but may not play Week 1.
  • Other cornerbacks like Kaiir Elam, DaRon Bland, and Andrew Booth could fill key roles in the interim.
  • Defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus has flexibility to adjust the secondary.
  • Cowboys face Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1.
