India Star Suffers Rib Fracture During Vijay Hazare Trophy, Could Be Out for Six Weeks
Indian cricket has suffered a setback as young batting star Sai Sudharsan sustained a rib fracture during a Vijay Hazare Trophy match, which could rule him out of competitive cricket for more than a month.
According to a BCCI source, the 24-year-old Tamil Nadu batter fractured his rib while playing against Madhya Pradesh in Ahmedabad. The injury occurred during a diving run between the wickets, adding to his recent struggles on the field.
📌 Details of the Injury
Medical reports have confirmed that Sudharsan suffered a slender, undisplaced fracture of the anterior cortex of the seventh right rib. Interestingly, the injury occurred at the same spot where he had earlier taken a blow during a net session in the same tournament.
Following the incident, Sudharsan reported to the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru on December 29, where further scans were conducted to assess the damage.
🏥 Recovery Timeline & Rehab Plan
According to sources familiar with the matter, injuries of this nature generally take six to eight weeks to heal completely.
A COE medical report stated:
“Sai is currently undertaking lower-body strength and conditioning work with adequate protection to the injured rib. He has responded positively to the rehabilitation program so far.”
The report further added that upper-body training will begin once acute symptoms subside, likely within the next 7–10 days, after which Sudharsan will be gradually eased into a structured strength and conditioning routine.
🏏 Impact on Domestic & IPL Season
Due to the injury, Sudharsan is unlikely to feature in Tamil Nadu’s remaining Ranji Trophy matches this season. However, there is optimism regarding his availability for the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Sources suggest that the batter could return to full fitness in time to represent Gujarat Titans, provided his recovery progresses as planned.
📉 Tough Phase in International Cricket
The injury comes at a challenging time for Sudharsan, who has been struggling to find form in Test cricket. The left-hander has failed to make a significant impact in nine of his last 11 Test innings, raising questions about his consistency at the highest level.
This setback could further delay his push for a comeback into India’s senior squads, especially in the longer format.
🔍 What Lies Ahead?
While the road to recovery may be demanding, Sudharsan’s age and fitness levels work in his favor. A successful rehabilitation could see him return stronger, particularly ahead of the high-intensity IPL season.
Cricket fans and selectors alike will be closely monitoring his progress over the coming weeks.
📝 Final Word
Sai Sudharsan’s rib fracture is a significant blow for both Tamil Nadu and Indian cricket, but timely medical intervention and structured rehabilitation offer hope. If recovery stays on track, fans may soon see the talented batter back in action — stronger and more determined than ever.
