Tilak Varma Hits Fastest Century for MI After Hardik Pandya’s Message in IPL 2026
Tilak Varma’s Explosive Century: How Hardik Pandya’s Mid-Match Message Sparked a Record Knock
In a thrilling IPL 2026 encounter, Tilak Varma delivered a stunning comeback performance, smashing an unbeaten 101 off just 45 balls. The young batter’s explosive innings not only helped Mumbai Indians regain momentum but also etched his name in the record books with one of the fastest centuries in the franchise’s history.
🔥 From Struggle to Stardom
Before this match, Tilak Varma had been going through a rough patch, scoring just 43 runs across five innings (20, 0, 14, 1, 8). His form was under scrutiny, but he silenced all doubts with a sensational knock when it mattered the most.
Interestingly, his innings started slowly. Varma managed only 19 runs off his first 22 balls, struggling to find rhythm against a disciplined bowling attack.
💬 The Turning Point: Hardik Pandya’s Message
At the end of the 14th over, captain Hardik Pandya was seen animatedly communicating with Varma on the field. While the exact message remains unknown, it clearly had a massive impact.
What followed was nothing short of extraordinary.
🚀 The Explosive Phase
After the interaction, Varma shifted gears dramatically:
- Scored 82 runs in the next 23 balls
- Hit 7 sixes and 8 fours
- Dominated bowlers with fearless stroke play
The 15th over, bowled by Prasidh Krishna, marked the beginning of his assault, where he smashed multiple boundaries and completely changed the momentum of the game.
📊 Record-Breaking Achievement
Tilak Varma’s century equals the fastest hundred for Mumbai Indians in IPL history:
- 45 balls – Tilak Varma vs GT (2026)
- 45 balls – Sanath Jayasuriya vs CSK (2008)
- 47 balls – Cameron Green vs SRH (2023)
- 49 balls – Suryakumar Yadav vs GT (2023)
🤝 Partnership and Late Surge
Varma and Pandya added 81 runs in just 38 balls, although Pandya himself scored a modest 15 off 16 balls. The final six overs produced a massive 96 runs, largely driven by Varma’s aggressive hitting.
⚡ Early Setback for Mumbai Indians
Before Varma’s heroics, Mumbai Indians were in trouble:
- Kagiso Rabada struck early with 3 wickets
- Top-order collapsed in the powerplay
- Key players like Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav failed to build momentum
Rabada’s pace and precision made it difficult for MI batters to settle, but Varma’s innings turned the game around completely.
🏁 Conclusion
Tilak Varma’s innings is a perfect example of resilience and confidence. From struggling with form to delivering a record-breaking century, his performance highlights the importance of belief and timely motivation.
With this knock, Varma not only revived his season but also strengthened Mumbai Indians’ campaign in IPL 2026.
